A View to Dine For : Taxi Dining Room

What was supposed to be a quick lunch date in the city turned out to be a wonderful day outing with my family. Beautiful clear blue skies and gentle breeze prompted me to go on a clicking frenzy with my camera around the city. Ooh la la…Melbourne is beautiful! Melbourne

Sharing with you some of the beautiful scenery of Melbourne – they don’t need much introduction … I’m sure you know which architecture they come from :)  Now, i’ll stop the rambling and get on with what i’m supposed to talk about today. I brought my hubby to celebrate an early Father’s Day lunch at Taxi Dining Room.  Centrally located at Federation Square, it’s THE place to dine and social before heading out for other entertainment in the city.

Awarded The Age Good Food Guide ‘Wine List of the Year’ and an impressive Two Chefs Hats in 2010, Executive chef, Tony Twitchett’s exciting fusion menu combines Asian and Australian cuisine.    Contemporary fittings took over Taxi’s fine interior with orb-like chandeliers and floor-to-ceiling windows giving us the opportunity to not only enjoy our lunch but the beautiful iconic view of Melbourne.

The Steak tartare was divine with heavy scented ginger spice breaking through the sculpted tartare.  Eaten with spicy crackers, it’s a marriage in heaven.  As for the next entree, Sticky pork was another winning formula and also my favourite.  With only one square pork belly, it is hard to split. So, we practically brutalised the pork so both of us can savour that one special bite.  Eaten together with Nam Jim sauce, the pork and scallop was heavenly.

The mains were a standout and exceeded my expectations.  The Roasted Atlantic salmon is beautifully crisp all around and pink in the middle.  Taxi’s signature Crispy Szechuan duck totally knocked my socks off!  The classic Chinese 5 spice blend of caramel sauce worked sweet wonders on the crispy skin duck while maintaining moisture and tenderness in its meat.  The simple Fish & chips were battered lightly, giving such fluffy bites.

Verdict : We had a delightful ride at Taxi.  Flavours are bold and daring, showcasing the use of many Asian spices. Service was very prompt and friendly, couple with the beautiful view of Yarra River/South Bank/Flinders, our lunch was very special.  Definitely a Big Big YES for Taxi.
